Community Supported Agriculture is a great way to support your local farmers while eating fresh, certified organic vegetables grown right here in the Treasure Valley. Participating in our CSA lets you try new vegetables, experiment with new recipes, and sync your eating with the seasons. It also decreases your carbon footprint, increases food security, and supports farmers who are committed to the health of the land and their community.
Why is the CSA a good option during the COVID-19 pandemic? The CSA is a great way to obtain fresh produce without putting ourselves and others at risk of contracting COVID-19. Our produce is grown right here in the Treasure Valley. It is low-touch, low-mileage food. We are very aware of the importance of frequent hand washing and sanitization and none of our workers will come to work if they exhibit any signs of illness. The CSA shares will be individually boxed and placed at pickup locations where social distancing can easily be accomplished. All you will have to do is pick up the box with your name on it.
Your support will help us sustain local food security and build a robust local economy. Our primary goal in organic farming has always been to support a healthy local community through small-scale local agriculture. Your CSA share will help sustain our business so we can support our families while continuing to provide you with food to support your family as we all weather this public health crisis together.
How does it work? CSA members purchase "shares," which guarantee them a share of fresh vegetables every week during the CSA season. Members sign up and pay for their shares in the winter and spring months. The early-season income helps farmers purchase seeds, hire employees, make repairs, and finance new infrastructure to get the farm season going.
You can purchase a weekly share, which will be picked up every week, or a bi-weekly share to be picked up every other week. This year the CSA will be 22 weeks long beginning the 3rd or 4th week of May and lasting into October. Each week (or every other for a biweekly share)you will pick up your pre-packed share of veggies at one of our 3 pickup locations in the Boise area.
Your share will directly reflect what is growing on the farm. You can generally expect lots of tender greens in the spring; tomatoes, peppers, carrots and summer squash in the summer; and winter squash, onions, garlic and storage vegetables in the fall. We will provide a diverse mix of vegetables and make sure to include some sort of leafy green in your share every week. We will also give you some exciting new vegetables to try, but we promise not to overload you with exotic vegetables you have never heard of.
